The horror genre in the filming industry is a genre intended to provoke the intended audience into experiencing fear or shock by appealing to them emotionally, psychologically, and sometimes physically. Scenes in a horror movie tend to have shock value, or play on the audience’s greatest fears, therefore directly engaging the audience. Themes that are recurring in the horror genre include the idea of evil forces, torture, curses, demons, serial killers, and Satanism, among many others.
