How We Will Be Using Final Cut Pro

For our teaser trailer we will be using final cut pro which is the software which will help us to cut and edit our shots.

Firstly, we have to open the video which we want to edit, this is done by clicking file, open.

We are now going to open the video called bhind tracking 2nd att, which will be the 1st video we will be editing.

We then cut out the part of the shot we needed and then inserted onto the time line and then went on to the next shot.

We added another shot where we took two sections from it and then ended up with two shots from one shot.

Health And Safety

When going to film our trailer, there are a series of things which we need to take into consideration. This is to ensure that nobody is hurt which they are filming, acting and moving equipment around the building or doing anything relating to the project.
Make up and equipment both fully need to be checked before moving to film our trailer. Health and safety is essential we need to be aware of it so there is a reduction in the amount of injuries.

The research into makeup and equipment has been done by other group members so they are all aware of what they should be doing while using the equipment.

Update on Group Progression

We had a group discussion on where we were at and what needs to be done.

Firstly everyone has uploaded and completed their own individual work, in terms of Summer Holiday Research, Audience research and Textual Analysis of, trailer, poster and magazine.

We  have come to a conclusion to who will be acting in our trailer. The drawer will be Jason, who is a student of Christ the King College and is in our media class. He will be the main character, the boy who draws. The girl is going to me myself, Lysette and the unknown killer will be Ayo. We have come to this because we believe it will be the best way to go about our characters and who will fit into that character.

Since that Ali has the responsibility of working on the graphical work in our team, he was able to produce drafts of our film poster. He then showed this to use. He had for different examples of how the poster may look like, then we all voted and discussed our decision and came to a conclusion of which poster we thought would be more suitable for our poster.
We had already come to a conclusion that we will be filming on the 29th of January, however the dates had to be changed.

On the 24th of January we came to a conclusion the we will be filming on the 7th of February, where we will be going to the studio.

Also we have arranged to have a make up session on the 1st of February with Ms Robinson, so that we can practice for the make up we will need to do on the day of out shooting.

Using Final Cut Pro

I've never used Final Cut Pro before therefore I wasn't sure where to start or how to go about using this editing tool. I found both "eHow" and "Wikipedia" helpful for the breakdown of information. I also felt that trying out the actual tools independently in Final Cut Pro proved to be helpful.

eHow:

I found a few of these "How to use..." videos helpful as a beginner editor.
  • How to trim clips:
Trimming clips is probably the easiest thing to do whilst editing and doesn't take too much time. I found that experimenting with Final Cut and watching tutorials very helpful. A problem I found while trimming clips was perhaps trimming too much or not the right clips.
  • How to import clips:
Importing clips is also another simple job as you can select a whole lot of clips and import them straight away. I didn't really need to view this tutorial but watched the clip to make sure I was doing the right thing.
  • How to do transitions:
I found applying transitions quite difficult as I am new to Final Cut but it wasn't as difficult after watching the tutorial. I felt that the transitions our group had decided on weren't going to be difficult and I felt confident in making the transitions look well done.

Costume Post! (Part 3)

Our antagonist ("The Killer"), will wear:

A plain Black hoodie

The identity of "The Killer" is anonymous, they are not revealed at all. However, this character will only be seen in a plain Black hoodie, as only their top half is shown and their appearance is completely blacked out. The Black hoodie relates to "The Killer's" hidden idendity.

Costume Post! (Part 2)

Our female character, will wear:

White tank top

Skinny jeans (Denim/ Blue)

Vans

The "final girl" will be dressed casually despite her glmaourous appearance. This contrast will represent that she is quite innocent but still follows a typical teenage life. The "final girl" is mostly connected with brains, manners and a clear conscience. The "final girl's" connection with Eric and "The Killer" is unknown.

It's A Costume Post!

Our protagonist (Eric), will be dressed in:

Skinny jeans (Black)

Plain Black T-shirt

Converse (or Vans)

Eric's clothing repressents his dark, unusual and reclused personality. The colour Black is usually associtiated with horror and quite dark atmospheres. Eric's style is considered to be of an "emo/ scene kid". This style represents Eric's anti-conformity and how he wants to fade to the background, neither seen nor heard. Although Eric's style is probably considered mainstream today but it still produces his own identity and how he doesn't foloow any particular "clique".

Logo Design for our 'Red Ink' Trailer

This is the official logo design for our trailer, 'Red Ink'. I decided to use this font as it relates to the main idea of the story, in which the main character embraces his ability to illustrate the fate of his victims.

Film Poster Mock-Up for 'Red Ink'

This is a mock-up idea of what we hope to be our film poster to be like.

Test Shot: Hand Close up

This is a test shot showing the hand of the boy drawing in an close up whist we have a swinging light

extra hand movement

Test Shot: Extra Hand Movement

In this test shot we were just testing out if we could add in any other movements from the boy drawing instead of just have the eye movements and the drawing movements.

Test Shot: Extreme Eye Close Up, 5th Attempt

test Shot: Extreme Eye Close Up, 4th Attempt

test Shot: Extreme Eye Close Up, 3rd Attempt

Test Shot: Extreme Eye Close Up, 2nd Attempt

Test Shot: Extreme Eye Close Up, 1st Attempt

In this practice shot we are trying to get a close up of the characters eye so as we zoom in on the characters fast hand movement we would also zoom in on his eyes so they can show how quick his eyes are moving as he draws to show how passionate he is. we had 5 attempts it was very hard to get it in focus mainly because of the lense of the camera we had

Test Shot: Tracking (dollying) Shot, 3rd Attempt

This is our 3rd attempt of the tracking in shot as practice makes perfect in this shot the camera tracks in. i think this shot was the best of the three as it was smooth.

Test Shot: Tracking (dollying) Shot, 2nd Attempt

This is also a tracking in shot, this is our 2nd attempt this shot is not the best of shots, mainly because as the camera tracks in it suddenly drops, this is why we do practice shots so we are able to get better as we gradually make steps towards the final attempt of the shot

Test Shot: Tracking (dollying) Shot, 1st Attempt

In this practice shot the camera is tracking in towards the character so the viewers are able to get a closer view of what the character is doing in this shot the character is drawing on a piece of paper .

Test Shot: Behind Tracking Shot 1st Attempt

This is the 2nd attempt of the practice behind tracking shot in this shot we lit up the table more so that the viewers are able to see it better, this help to achieve a more clearer shot and get the viewers to understand more.

Test Shot: Behind Tracking Shot, 1st Attempt

This is a a practice shot, which is a behind tracking shot of the drawer who is drawing in the dark, due to the low key lighting we are hardly able to the see the drawer. Which helps to achieve the profile of a lonely character.
